Bagar
Bagar is a small town situated in the Shekhawati region of Jhunjhunu District, Rajasthan. It was founded in the middle of 15th century by the Nagar Pathans. Bagar is 14 km north of Jhunjhunu.

Major point of attraction is the Piramal Haveli, now converted into a heritage hotel. Bagar is the only painted town of Shekhawati region where one can stay in a Marwari style. A large white gate (built in 1928 in honour Maharaja of Jaipur"s visit), Fatehsagar water tank (a large reservoir built by the Ojha family), Rungta Haveli, Rungta Dharmashala and Miya Saheb ki Durgah are worth visiting.

History

This was the home of Seth Piramal Chaturbhuj Makharia (1892-1958) whose fortune was made in Bombay, trading in cotton, opium, silver and other commodities.Built in the Rajasthani-colonial style of the 1920's, The Piramal Haveli is an 8-room 'non-hotel.' It is 250 kms.from Delhi and 100 kms. from Neemrana and is run by the same management. Here, the famed traditional vegetarian cuisine of the Marwaris is served in thalis. The Haveli has traditional courtyards enclosed by colonial pillared corridors. Frescoes of flying angels and gods in motor cars adorn the walls.

As of 2001 India census, Baggar had a population of 14,648. Males constitute 56% of the population and females 44%. Baggar has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 64% of the males and 36% of females literate. 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Flora and Fauna

The Flora and Fauna in Rajasthan is sparse as expected in the desert land. Most of the forest is of dry deciduous type. It has a small range of slow-growing thorny trees, shrubs and grasses that has adapted itself to the harsh conditions.Chinkaras are slimmer than the blackbuck and can survive without water for very long periods. They live in smaller herds and thrive mainly on wild grasses and various types of shrubs.
